This week, we have multiple people that were chosen by Mrs. Esplin for our Olympic Torch. Here is what she said: "I would like to pass the torch to the three amazing ladies I am lucky enough to work with everyday. They are all three awesome and I couldn't choose just one of them. Christy Valero, Lola Diaz, and Wendy Segura are smart, dedicated, hardworking, and patient. They are always thinking of great ideas to improve their groups and our intervention system. There is no way I could do what I do without them - plus, they are just fun to be around!"

Esta semana, tenemos varias personas que fueron elegidas por la Sra. Esplin para recibir nuestra Antorcha Olímpica. Esto es lo que dijo: "Quisiera pasar la antorcha a las tres increíbles mujeres con las que tengo la suerte de trabajar todos los días. Come and enjoy a special day of learning and valuable information Thursday, February 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 pm. We will be joined by our special guest, Mario Magaña, who will share his journey and experience on the topic "The Price of Education." His message (which will be in Spanish) will be a great opportunity for reflection, motivation, and growth. In addition, we will have tables with community resource information to support families and gift baskets giveaway.

Ven a disfrutar un día especial de aprendizaje y lleno de información el jueves 20 de febrero de 6:00 a 8:00 pm. Nos acompañará Mario Magaña como invitado especial que compartirá su trayectoria y experiencia con el tema "El Precio de la Educación". At this time Nyssa School District will operate a full school day. We are monitoring the road conditions closely and will communicate any changes regarding an early release as soon as that determination is made. All after school activities have been canceled. The district recognizes the hardship for an early release for all our families and will take that into consideration when making the determination.

Here is what she said: "Mrs. Cheryl Esplin is truly making an incredible impact at the Elementary School with her dedication and hard work! Her positivity, patience, and constant willingness to adapt are valuable qualities, especially when it comes to supporting students’ growth and tracking their progress. She goes above and beyond, not only in her professional role but also in the sacrifices she makes for the betterment of the students. She truly deserves to be nominated for her commitment to education and her positive influence on the school community."

Here is the next recipient of our Olympic Torch, chosen by Mrs. Barnhart. Here is what she said: "I have had the privilege of getting to know a newer employee over the last three years that I am honored to nominate. Ms. Burgundee Porter is a fourth grade teacher who has shown extreme thoughtfulness in planning and teaching her students. She has taken on the challenge of teaching SMILE at the Elementary School. She has become a real asset to our school as she has gone above and beyond to help her students and our staff. She is continuously seeking out ways to lift her coworkers and students. I have felt truly grateful she chose to work here and commit to our Nyssa School District team."

A message from Superintendent Ryan Hawkins: I want to take a moment to address some concerns that are circulating regarding immigration enforcement and how it might impact our schools. Please know that the Nyssa School District remains fully committed to providing a safe and welcoming environment for all students and families. Your child’s safety and education are our top priorities. Under Oregon’s sanctuary state laws, immigration enforcement is not allowed in schools and were not present at any time during school. We are a place of learning and support, and our doors remain open to every child in our community. We are in continuous conversations with all local and state officials to provide factual information and quality service to our students and families. Un mensaje del Superintendente Ryan Hawkins: Quiero tomar un momento para hablar sobre algunas preocupaciones que estan circulando sobre la aplicacion de leyes de inmigracion y como esto podria afectar a nuestras escuelas. Por favor, sepan que el Distrito Escolar de Nyssa sigue totalmente comprometido a proporcionar un ambiente seguro y bienvenido para todos los estudiantes y sus familias. La seguridad y educacion de sus hijos son nuestras principales prioridades. Segun las leyes del estado santuario de Oregon, no se permite la aplicacion de leyes de inmigracion en las escuelas y no han estado presentes en ningun momento durante el horario escolar. Somos un lugar de aprendizaje y apoyo, y nuestras puertas permanecen abiertas para todos los estudiantes de nuestra comunidad. Estamos en conversaciones continuas con funcionarios locales y estatales para brindar informacion precisa y un servicio de calidad a nuestros estudiantes y familias.
