Here is the recipient of our Olympic Torch this week, chosen by Mrs. Heninger. Here's what she said: "I would like to pass the torch to Mrs. Marianne Corn. She is a rock star! She is new to our district, with joining our staff at the Middle School in the middle of the school year. It is difficult being a new teacher at a school and even more difficult to start in the middle of a school year. She has made a seamless transition with our staff and her students. Her enthusiasm for art and her students is felt by all. She is energetic and works well with all levels of students’ artistic abilities. She goes above and beyond, inspiring her students in art. We are so blessed to have her join our staff." Congrats Mrs. Corn! Aquí está la persona que recibió nuestra Antorcha Olímpica esta semana, elegida por la Sra. Heninger. We wanted to shout out and share what our Nyssa BPA Production Team created! They made an awesome video, with help from our community, on the topic "Farm to Table," showing how sugar beets become sugar. They placed 1st in the state and are now headed to Nationals in Orlando! With support from Amalgamated Sugar, they’re fundraising by selling 4lb bags of sugar. If you’d like to support the team, please email Mrs. Long at along@nyssasd.org to purchase bags. In case you haven’t seen it, our school recently added a brand-new walking path behind our Elementary School! Students have already been enjoying it during recess, PE, and even brain breaks throughout the day. It’s a great way to stay active, get some fresh air, and safely enjoy the outdoors. ¡Por si no lo han visto, nuestra escuela recientemente agregó un nuevo camino para caminar detrás de nuestra Primaria! Los estudiantes ya lo han estado disfrutando durante el recreo, las clases de educación física e incluso durante pausas activas a lo largo del día. Her dedication and focus on student success are a positive example for the entire team. Not only does she focus on student success, she also supports and encourages her co-workers. She is a huge reason that Nyssa is a great place to work. When I started working at Nyssa Middle School many years ago she was the first one to welcome me and offer to help me with the paperwork. To this day, she is the one I go to when I have a question or need help. Lori, I want you to know that having you on our team makes all the difference. Your commitment to fostering a supportive and positive work environment does not go unnoticed. I am incredibly grateful to have been able to work with you and learn from you. Your contributions have made a real difference to our success as a school district. Thank you for always being the first to volunteer a helping hand." Congrats Mrs. Heninger! We see the joy she always has in being able to help her students. She always shows that she has much patience and understanding with them. Her love for them makes her happy. We can see that she does her work with much love. We see her walking with her students, talking with them, and being kind to them. We see her happy in her profession and for that we love her. Her work deserves to be recognized. We admire her and we respect her." Congrats Mrs. Tuckness! We want to give a big shoutout to three outstanding Nyssa High School students — Ana Trinidad, Cristian Carrillo, and Lesly Blanco Hernandez — who earned scholarships from TVCC and The College of Idaho after attending the Hispanic Healthcare and Technology Careers Conference! Here's what they said: "We have decided to pass the Torch to our Middle School janitors, Lorena Salgado and Elias Pascacio. We would like to recognize their amazing teamwork and how hard they work to keep the Middle School clean, sanitized and safe for the students and staff. They are reliable and always give their best effort. Their strong work ethic and teamwork sets a great example for all of us. They always have a smile on their face. Lorena and Elias go above and beyond and it's important to recognize them. Thank you for your hard work and dedication!" Congrats Lorena and Elias! Carmen and Sonia are vital members of our food service team, working tirelessly to feed our middle school students. Their dedication is truly remarkable—they have served an incredible 25,701 breakfasts and 24,271 lunches to our middle school students this year! Both are known for their outstanding attendance, reliability, and friendly demeanor. Their hard work and commitment to our students and our district make them more than deserving of this recognition. Today, we hosted the 9th Annual Malheur County Spelling Bee at our Elementary School! We had some amazing spellers representing our schools: Nevaeh C., Persephone H., Christopher J., Yolanda A.(3rd place for 4th grade!), Kaylee B., Olivia W. (3rd place for 6th grade!), Carson Coy, and Alexis C. (1st place for 8th grade and 3rd place overall!). They all did an incredible job! A huge thank you to everyone who helped plan and support this event. We’d also like to congratulate the Malheur County Spelling Bee Champion, Katy Wolfe (4th Grade) from Vale! ¡Hoy llevamos a cabo el 9.º Concurso Anual de Deletreo del Condado de Malheur en nuestra Escuela Primaria! Tuvimos participantes increíbles representando a nuestras escuelas: Nevaeh C., Persephone H., Christopher J., Yolanda A.(¡3.er lugar en 4.º grado!), Kaylee B., Olivia W. (¡3.er lugar en 6.º grado!), Carson Coy y Alexis C. (¡1.er lugar en 8.º grado y 3.er lugar en la competencia general!). ¡Todos hicieron un trabajo excelente!
